I DREAM WITH MY EYES OPEN
For me, still life is an escape, a deliberate slowing down, like pushing the clock hands with my fingers to cheat time. In its silence, I discover a demanding precision. The simpler I arrange the objects, the more meaning grows within them. What matters to me is to unravel their pictorial density down to the bare essence of the object, the lifeless items (those that were created like that or such that faded from life) that seem immune to time and allow me to discover life where everything appears motionless. When I photograph still lifes, I dream with my eyes open. Yet it is a dream I can control.
